Chata na Szańcach stands in the hamlet of Szańce in Koniaków, in the Silesian Beskids, on a high slope with views of the surrounding ridges. It houses the Tadeusz Rucki Gallery of Regional Art and Culture of Non-Professional Artists — a place run by an artist rather than by a museum institution, which can be heard in the way the exhibits are described.
The core of the collection is Koniaków lace: a bonnet about 140 years old, doilies, tablecloths, blouses and the famous lace miniatures. Alongside them is the folk art of the three Beskid villages — sculpture, glass painting, prints and the artistic joinery of the Silesian highlanders. A ceramics studio also operates on the premises.
The host specialises in making shepherds' horns, alpine horns and trembitas — the long shepherd instruments of the Beskids, which take considerable skill to play. In the summer season competitions in trembita playing are held here, drawing musicians from across the region. Admission to the gallery is free.
