Kościerska 1, Kartuzy
The Kashubian Museum stands in the centre of Kartuzy, in the heart of Kashubian Switzerland. It gathers collections documenting the daily life, work and craft of the Kashubian people, above all from the 19th century. It is one of the oldest regional museums in Pomerania and a natural starting point for exploring Kashubian identity.
The exhibition occupies seven rooms arranged by theme. On display are household equipment, tools, furniture, textiles and folk art, including the characteristic Kashubian pottery and embroidery. A separate highlight is the set of folk instruments, above all the devil's fiddle and the burczybas, once used at rituals and village festivities.
The museum runs workshops and museum lessons for organised groups, from preschoolers to secondary school pupils, on themes tied to the culture of the region. The visit takes place indoors, so it does not depend on the weather. Nearby it is worth seeing the Kartuzy collegiate church with its roof shaped like a coffin lid.
