The Porcelain Museum occupies a townhouse on 1 Maja Street, in the very centre of Wałbrzych. It collects utility and artistic ceramics, and its holdings also tell the story of the industrial past of a town that lived on coal and porcelain for decades.
The core of the display is the ceramics department with more than ten thousand objects. Alongside glazed tableware and decorative pieces there are stoneware, faience, majolica and terracotta. The collection is built around products of Wałbrzych manufactories active since the 19th century, complemented by examples from workshops across Europe.
A visit takes about an hour and works in any weather, so it is a good idea for a rainy day on the road. The museum runs workshops introducing artistic ceramic techniques, willingly attended by families with children. The display stands downtown, close to other landmarks of Wałbrzych.
