Tarnogórska 129, Gliwice
The Gliwice Radio Station stands on Tarnogórska Street, on the northern edge of the city. The 110-metre tower was built of larch wood joined with brass screws — a structure unique worldwide, since similar masts were usually dismantled or replaced with steel ones.
The complex was raised between 1934 and 1936 and survived the war without major damage. Today it is cared for by the Museum in Gliwice, which opens the transmitter building with its almost untouched technical equipment from the 1930s. The station holds the status of a Historic Monument.
The site can be seen on your own or with a guide, also in foreign languages, and the museum runs educational classes. The station belongs to the Industrial Monuments Route of the Silesian Voivodeship, part of the European Route of Industrial Heritage, so it combines well with other stops on that trail.
