A museum in a wooden villa

The museum occupies Villa Romanówka, a wooden building in the centre of Krynica-Zdrój, right by the spa promenade. It is a branch of the District Museum in Nowy Sącz and is devoted entirely to the work of Nikifor Krynicki, one of Poland's best-known non-professional painters.

What to see

The core of the display is several dozen paintings — views of Orthodox churches, railway stations, spa guesthouses and imagined towns. Next to the works the artist's workshop is shown: boxes of paints, brushes, the stamps he signed his pictures with, and the paper he painted on.

The surroundings

The exhibition is completed by memorabilia: photographs, catalogues, posters and invitations to exhibitions in Poland and abroad. The visit is short and combines well with a walk along the promenade, the pump room and the funicular up Góra Parkowa.
