Czarnolas 36, Wieś Czarnolas
The Jan Kochanowski Museum in Czarnolas is a branch of the District Museum in Radom and commemorates the greatest poet of the Polish Renaissance. The collection is housed in the neoclassical Jabłonowski manor of the 19th century, raised on the grounds of the poet's former estate. It was here that Kochanowski farmed and wrote his epigrams and the “Laments”, and the name of the village entered the history of literature for good.
The display is biographical and presents the poet's life and work in six rooms covering about 250 square metres. Among the mementoes are furniture, paintings, tapestries, ceramics, sculptures and reliefs, medals, woodcuts and old editions of his works. A leather armchair with an embossed pattern and the iron door of the treasury with the initials and the Korwin coat of arms stand out.
The manor is surrounded by a landscape park from the first half of the 19th century, pleasant for a quiet walk among old trees. Within it stands the Kochanowski chapel, where the exhibitions “Rzeczpospolita Babińska” and “Little Wawel” are shown. Czarnolas lies in Mazovia, between Radom and Zwoleń, in a quiet area away from the main routes.
