The Museum of the Sokółka Region occupies an eighteenth-century building in the centre of Sokółka. It holds over two thousand objects and documents describing the history of the area — a region where Polish and Tatar cultures have mingled for centuries.
The ethnographic section shows everyday life in the villages around Sokółka: tools, farm equipment and craft products. Folk art is presented separately, including the double-warp textiles and embroidery typical of Podlasie. The hallmark of the collection is the Tatar section devoted to the Polish Tatars settled nearby.
The museum runs workshops, classes and educational walks for children, teenagers and adults. It makes a good starting point before a trip along the Tatar Trail to Kruszyniany and Bohoniki with their historic mosques and Muslim cemeteries.
