Mickiewicza 1a, Karpacz
Karkonoskie Tajemnice is a multimedia exhibition in the centre of Karpacz devoted to the nature, history and legends of the Karkonosze mountains. A National Geographic poll named it one of the seven wonders of Poland. The route leads through successive settings where image, sound and stage design carry the story.
The rooms introduce the Spirit of the Mountains, the early inhabitants of the region, the mineral prospectors known as Walloons, and the herbalists who brewed remedies from Karkonosze plants. Legend is interwoven with the realities of mountain life.
With little text to read, the format works well with children, and themed workshops are held for various age groups. It also makes a sensible plan for a rainy day in Karpacz, when the mountain trails are less inviting.
