A historic paper mill in Duszniki-Zdrój

The Museum of Papermaking occupies a paper mill from the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, one of the most valuable monuments of technology in Poland. The Baroque building with its distinctive broken roof stands on the Bystrzyca Dusznicka river, a few minutes from the spa centre of Duszniki-Zdrój.

What to see

The displays follow the path from rags and fibres to a finished sheet: equipment for making handmade paper, instruments for testing its quality, and collections of sheets with watermarks and papers coloured using historic techniques. A separate section is devoted to security printing — banknotes, passports and identity documents.

Who it suits

The biggest draw are the paper-making workshops, where everyone produces their own sheet, which makes the museum a good choice with children and in bad weather. The institution also runs museum classes, research into the history of papermaking and the annual Paper Festival.
