The Living Museum of Gingerbread operates in a townhouse on Rabiańska Street, within the old town of Toruń listed by UNESCO. It is an interactive museum: instead of display cases there are wooden moulds, dough and spices, and the tour is led by guides playing the Gingerbread Master and the Spice Witch.
On the first floor visitors learn the old recipe and press the dough into a wooden mould themselves. One floor up an early 20th-century manufactory has been arranged, with baking machines and wax moulds, and the meeting ends with decorating gingerbread with icing under an artist's guidance.
The workshops are run with humour and involve every participant, which makes them a favourite with families and school groups. Everything takes place indoors, so the weather does not matter, and the gingerbread you make goes home with you.
