An interactive museum in Żory

Muzeum Ognia is a modern venue devoted to a single element and its role in human history. It stands on Katowicka Street, in a striking, sharply angular building often regarded as an attraction in its own right. The exhibition is built around multimedia and hands-on stations.

What you will see inside

The story runs from prehistory, when fire brought warmth and safety, through the industrial age to modern firefighting techniques. Visitors view reconstructions, carry out simple experiments themselves and learn about the destructive side of the element — town fires and the ways of fighting them.

Żory and the Fire Festival

The theme is no accident: the town suffered a great fire in the past, and its memory survives in Święto Ogniowe, the Fire Festival held since the early 18th century. Once a thanksgiving observance, today it is a large cultural event. The museum is a good starting point for a walk around the old town.
