Rynek 37, Świdnica
The Museum of Old Merchant Trade occupies the historic town hall in the middle of the market square in Świdnica. It is devoted to the trading traditions of Silesia and to the history of the town, and its seat — with a tower rising above the square — is itself one of the most interesting monuments in Lower Silesia.
The exhibitions are divided into sections on old merchant trade, the history of Świdnica and metrology. Visitors see a reconstructed colonial goods shop, market stalls, shop tills, weights and measures, a brewing display, as well as a model of the town, old maps, postcards and archaeological finds, among them a fibula some three thousand years old.
The town hall also houses a mausoleum of the Silesian Piasts and a collection of coats of arms and stained glass testifying to the town's former trading contacts. The museum offers nine museum classes on Silesian industry, merchant traditions and figures connected with the region.
