The Geological Museum operates within the Polish Geological Institute in Warsaw, on Rakowiecka Street in the Mokotów district. It collects and displays specimens documenting the geology of Poland: rocks, minerals, fossils and research material gathered by the institute.
The permanent displays are arranged by theme and lead from minerals and rocks to the history of life on Earth. The strongest impression is made by full-size reconstructions — a piece of desert and a cave — which let you step into the setting instead of viewing it in a case. An outdoor display waits in front of the building.
The museum is friendly to families with children and to school groups: it runs museum lessons and workshops divided by age, from pre-schoolers to adults. Temporary exhibitions accompany the permanent ones. It makes a good stop on a rainy day while sightseeing in Warsaw.
