The Central Museum of Textiles occupies the complex of Ludwik Geyer's former mill in Łódź, known as the White Factory. The institution documents the history of Poland's largest textile centre, which in the 19th century turned a small settlement into an industrial city. The collection covers raw materials, fabrics, machines and tools of the trade.
The displays follow the successive stages of production, from fibre and yarn to finished cloth. Visitors can look at weaving workshops from several generations, learn the types of weaves and see how steam-driven machines worked. Animations, films and quizzes accompany the exhibits and organise the technical content.
Interactive stations let you embroider a pattern on a napkin virtually, design your own fabric or try games with yarn and cotton, which makes the museum a good choice for a visit with children. The building is weather-independent, and its central location makes it easy to combine with a walk around Łódź.
