The ark at Pławna Dolna

Noah's Ark is a wooden structure raised at Pławna Dolna near Lwówek Śląski and forms part of the artistic complex Magiczna Pławna. Its shape echoes the biblical vessel: it is around 40 m long, 15 m wide and 10 m high. Reclaimed timber was used for the construction.

What to see

Inside are collections of sacred and folk art together with animal figures, a clear nod to the story of the ark. The exhibits include replicas of the Shroud of Turin and of the tablets of the Decalogue, excavated crosses about two hundred years old, Orthodox icons and a copy of the Bible set in Gothic type from 1733. Films devoted to the Ark of the Covenant are screened on site. Works by the artist behind the whole venture occupy a separate place.

The surroundings

Pławna lies in the Izera Foothills between Lwówek Śląski and Gryfów Śląski, in a region full of castles, sandstone rocks and old quarries. Seeing the ark itself takes about an hour, while the whole Magiczna Pławna complex easily fills half a day.
