The Road Engineering Museum in Szczucin is the only institution in Poland dedicated entirely to the history of road building and maintenance. It stands in Szczucin in the Małopolska region, in the dąbrowski district, close to the Vistula valley. The collection is cared for by the Road Engineering History Unit and is split between indoor galleries and a large open-air area.
The rooms hold maps, technical documentation, surveying instruments, textbooks and trade publications. Separate cases are devoted to the people of the profession: roadmen's uniforms, banners and photographs taken during work on the highways. A curiosity is the chronological review of some thirty road surfaces, from the Cretan road to modern technologies.
Around the building stands a collection of road equipment: horse-drawn and mechanical rollers, portable steam engines, crushers, rippers, graders, water carts and winches. The open space makes this a good stop when travelling with children.
