Kołobrzeska 9, Wieś Ustronie Morskie
The Bread Open-Air Museum in Ustronie Morskie, a few kilometres from Kołobrzeg, combines a museum display with a living demonstration of traditional baking. The collection is housed in a building styled after a nineteenth-century cottage, and the heart of the place is a historic bread oven more than a hundred years old, in which bread is baked in front of visitors.
The display gathers the equipment that accompanies baking: querns in which you can grind grain yourself, slicers, butter churns and baking moulds. The museum runs bread workshops in which participants learn how a loaf is made and prepare a bake themselves. A separate option is pottery classes with a demonstration of shaping clay vessels.
This is above all a stop for families with children: the visit is short, hands-on and takes place indoors, so it works well on a rainy day by the Baltic. There is a restaurant area on site serving regional dishes and tastings of different kinds of bread.
