Muzealna 6, Wieś Sztutowo
The Stutthof Museum in Sztutowo, at the base of the Vistula Spit, was established on the grounds of the German Nazi concentration camp — the first set up on occupied Polish soil. The memorial site covers around twenty hectares and is open to visitors both as a museum and as a cemetery of the victims.
The route leads through the Old Camp and the New Camp, the halls of the former DAW workshops, the gas chamber, the crematorium, a watchtower, the SS guardhouse, the commandant's office building and his villa. To these are added the Forum of Nations, the monument and memorials on the sites of the Jewish Camp barracks and of the pyre.
The barracks house displays on the daily reality of the prisoners: transport to the camp, living conditions, the system of punishment. Thematic exhibitions cover the Free City of Danzig, the occupier's policy in Gdańsk Pomerania, the origins of the camp, the SS garrison and the fate of Jewish prisoners. The visit calls for concentration and preparation, especially with younger participants.
