Porcelain behind the scenes

The Living Porcelain Museum in Ćmielów combines an exhibition with a working studio. The tour follows the successive stages of production: preparing the body, casting in plaster moulds, drying, firing and decorating. Craftsmen work at their stations, so instead of display cases visitors watch the real process.

What to see

Beyond the production hall there are displays of historic porcelain and a gallery of works by Polish designers. A separate place belongs to pink porcelain coloured in the body – the signature of the Ćmielów manufactory, known for its thin-walled, translucent forms. The museum also runs ceramic workshops where participants shape and decorate a mug, cup or figurine themselves.

Good to know

The site stands on Sandomierska Street, on the route between Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski and Sandomierz, so it fits easily into a tour of the Świętokrzyskie region. Visits are guided, in groups, and take about an hour. A café on site serves drinks in locally made tableware.
