Leśna 7, Białystok
The Podlasie Museum of Folk Culture is an open-air museum of wooden architecture on the road from Białystok to Wasilków. Several dozen buildings brought from villages of the Białystok region stand on a large wooded site – farmsteads, granaries, a windmill, a water mill and a forester's lodge – arranged to recreate the layout of an old Podlasie village.
The interiors are furnished with everyday utensils, farming tools and craft workshops. Permanent displays cover the folk art of Podlasie, the ornamentation of wooden houses, beekeeping, historic forestry, rural means of transport and the manor interiors in the manor house from Bobra Wielka. Separate exhibitions are devoted to childhood in the countryside and to the village school.
The visit takes place outdoors, on paved and dirt paths, so it works best in good weather. The museum runs educational classes and demonstrations of traditional crafts, popular with families and school groups.
