The tropics in Źródliska Park

The Palm House in Łódź stands in Źródliska Park I, the oldest park in the city, in a distinctive glazed building. It ranks among the largest and most modern display glasshouses in the country and operates as part of the Łódź botanical garden.

The plant collection

Under the glass grow about 4,500 plants representing more than a thousand taxa from 65 botanical families. The display is divided into three pavilions: tropical, Mediterranean, and a collection of cacti and succulents. Palms over a century old draw attention, along with citrus trees, figs, ferns, orchids and prickly pears several metres tall.

When to come

The Palm House is open all year and is often at its most interesting outside the summer season, when southern species come into bloom. Beside the building lies a teaching garden with paths, an arbour and historic lanterns, while the surrounding park invites a walk after the visit.
