Sądecka 6, Rabka-Zdrój
The Władysław Orkan Museum in Rabka-Zdrój occupies a wooden church built in 1606, which served the parish until the 1930s and was then given over to a regional museum. The building itself – with its shingled roof and richly decorated interior – is as important an exhibit as the collection.
The display is divided into four sections: pottery, shepherding and crafts, costume, and sculpture. The objects come from Rabka and its surroundings and document the culture of the Zagórzanie, a highland group from the borderland of the Beskid Wyspowy and the Gorce mountains. Alongside household equipment there is sacred art and folk sculpture.
The museum runs workshops and educational classes, including glass painting and folk toy making, and hosts events through the year such as the Easter palm competition, organ concerts and the Night of Museums. It stands in the centre of the spa town, close to the spa park, so a visit combines well with a walk.
