The Pieniny under one roof

The Pieniny National Park Museum works in Krościenko nad Dunajcem, in the park headquarters on Jagiellońska Street. It is a small but densely arranged natural history venue that prepares visitors for hiking in the Pieniny – explaining the geology of the range, its plants and animals, and the principles of protecting the area.

What to see

The core is the exhibition “How the present-day landscape of the Pieniny came to be – why and how we protect it”, combining geology, nature, ethnography and architecture. A three-dimensional model of the range draws attention, clearly showing the limestone crags, the Dunajec gorge and the network of trails. Temporary exhibitions complement the permanent display.

The area

A dendrological path with information boards on the trees and shrubs of the Pieniny runs right next to the building. Krościenko makes a convenient base: Trzy Korony, Sokolica and the raft landings are all close by, and the museum is worth visiting before setting out.
