The painted village and its creative house

The Felicja Curyłowa House of the Women Painters stands in Zalipie, a village in the Powiśle Dąbrowskie area known for cottages covered with floral paintings. The institution combines the roles of a communal culture centre and a creative work house, caring for the local decorative tradition.

Workshops and tradition

Visitors can take part in art classes devoted to the Zalipie floral paintings as well as to Easter decorations, painted eggs and palms. Participants make their own handicraft and at the same time learn the patterns and techniques used by the village painters.

Good to know

Zalipie comes to life most during the „Painted Cottage” competition, held without a break since 1948 and regarded as the longest-running ethnographic contest in Poland. It is accompanied by a village fete, and the painted farmsteads, shrines and wells can be seen while walking around the village.
