Centrum Historii Zajezdnia occupies a former municipal transport depot from the end of the 19th century on Grabiszyńska Street in Wrocław. It was here that the strike of the city's tram and bus crews began in August 1980. Today the building tells the story of the recent history of Wrocław and its inhabitants.
The core of the centre is the display “Wrocław 1945–2016”, which leads through the post-war history of the city. Visitors walk into a reconstructed miniature town with a railway station, a butcher's shop, a kiosk and a reading room, while the basement explains how the anti-communist opposition worked. The scenery recreates the 1970s.
The centre also works as a meeting place: it hosts cultural events, workshops, museum lessons and competitions for children and teenagers. The interiors are wheelchair accessible and the whole visit takes place indoors, which makes it a good choice for a rainy day in the city.
