ul. Haffnera 63, Sopot
The Sopot hillfort lies on Haffnera Street, on the edge of a wooded hill above the resort. In the early Middle Ages a fortified settlement stood here, controlling the route along the coast. Today the site is an open-air archaeological museum, a branch of the Archaeological Museum in Gdańsk.
Huts, a gate and a palisade have been rebuilt on the rampart, set exactly where the original structures once stood. Alongside them stands an exhibition and education pavilion with the multimedia display “The earliest history of Sopot”, devoted to prehistoric life on the southern Baltic coast. The site also hosts craft demonstrations and festivals.
It makes a good stop for families with children who want to see the Middle Ages up close and take a break from the crowds on Monte Cassino Street. The grounds are small, a visit takes about an hour and combines easily with a walk in the Tricity Landscape Park.
