The Mining and Metallurgy Open-Air Museum in Leszczyna near Złotoryja commemorates the former copper mining and smelting industry of Lower Silesia. Within a small area survive the relics of an industry that for centuries determined the prosperity of this part of the region.
The most striking sight is the reconstruction of a twin furnace made up of two towers, together with the Chamber of Mining and Metallurgy Traditions, which recreates everyday life in a medieval small town. Around the museum runs the educational trail „Synklina Leszczyny”, leading past geological outcrops and the remains of old workings.
The site is geared towards guided tours and group activities: demonstrations of old crafts, workshops for children and young people, sessions on astronomy and folk medicine. It also hosts the Kaczawa Bloomery Festival — a regionally known event devoted to the traditions of ore smelting.
