Dworcowa 18, Wieś Brusy-Jaglie
The Józef Chełmowski Kashubian Cottage Museum stands in the village of Brusy-Jaglie in Chojnice County, roughly halfway between Chojnice and Kościerzyna. The building was raised from scratch in the traditional Kashubian style and opened to visitors in 2005. The idea for such a museum came from circles of the Kashubian-Pomeranian Association back in the 1980s.
The interiors hold some four hundred objects connected with the daily life of the former inhabitants of the Zabory region. Among them are kitchen and table utensils, collections of baskets and glasses, juice presses, sausage-making devices, period furniture, horseshoes and harness, and traps for small animals. A separate group covers technical relics of the communist era, such as a valve radio and a Rubin television set.
A garden surrounds the house, filled with sculptures and painted beehives by Józef Chełmowski, one of the best known Kashubian folk artists. The museum lies next to the Zabory Landscape Park, so a visit combines easily with a longer walk through the region.
