Słodka 1, Szczebrzeszyn
The Museum of the Treasures of the Earth and Sea operates in Szczebrzeszyn in the Roztocze region and grew out of a private collecting passion. The collection of rocks, minerals and fossils was assembled over many years, with specimens bought at European mineral fairs and gathered in the field.
The display features minerals with striking crystal forms, rock specimens, objects of marine origin and fossils — traces of ancient life in the seas and on land. The captions explain the chemical composition of the exhibits, the conditions in which they formed and the processes that constantly reshape the Earth's crust.
This intimate exhibition works well for a visit with children and as a break while touring the Roztocze. Szczebrzeszyn itself, famous from a Polish tongue-twister about a beetle, has a well-kept market square and historic churches, so the museum is easy to combine with a walk through the town.
