Museum in Jarosław – Orsetti House

A Renaissance townhouse on the market square

The Museum in Jarosław occupies the Orsetti House, one of the best preserved Renaissance burgher houses in Poland, standing in the frontage of the town's market square. The building was raised at a time when the town grew rich on great fairs that drew merchants from across Europe, and its imposing form bears witness to that.

What to see

The architectural details catch the eye: the arcades, the decorative attic and the ornamented brackets. Inside, the Great Chamber has survived with its beamed ceiling and seventeenth-century figural wall painting. The tour also covers the cellars and the underground merchant storerooms. Permanent exhibitions present the life and culture of the old burghers and the history of Jarosław, and there is a hall for temporary shows.

Surroundings

The house stands in the heart of the old town, so a visit combines easily with a walk around the square, a descent into the underground tourist route and a look at the monastic complexes of Jarosław. The whole exhibition is indoors, so it works in any weather.
