1-go Maja, Kazimierza Wielka
Baszta Kazimierska stands in Kazimierza Wielka in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship. It looks like a fragment of medieval defensive walls or the remains of a castle, yet it has nothing to do with a stronghold. It was built in 1888 as a gasworks for the neighbouring „Łubna” sugar factory, later housing flats for apprentices and then offices.
The design is attributed to Tadeusz Stryjeński, an architect who drew on historical styles, mainly the neo-Renaissance — hence the fortified costume of an ordinary industrial building. The sugar factory closed in 2002 and the tower was handed over to the Museum of the Kazimierza Region, which arranged an exhibition inside.
The interiors present old equipment and photographs of Kazimierza Wielka and its surroundings, documenting the heyday of the sugar factory. The main draw is the viewing terrace at the top, offering a panorama of the town and the farmland around it. The visit is short and fits well into a stop along the route.
