The Łowicz Ethnographic Park

The open-air museum in Maurzyce, formally the Łowicz Ethnographic Park, is a branch of the museum in Łowicz and lies a few kilometres from the town. It presents the wooden architecture of the former Duchy of Łowicz, that is the area of today's Łowicz and Skierniewice districts, together with the furnishings of rural farmsteads.

Layout and buildings

About forty buildings from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries have been gathered here. They are arranged to show two historical layouts of a Łowicz village: the older one with an oval green in the middle, and the newer one — a street village. The cottages keep their furniture, farm tools, everyday objects and the distinctive Łowicz decorations. Small architecture also stands out: wayside shrines, crosses and wells.

Events and activities

The museum runs educational classes, craft workshops and open-air painting sessions. Regular events recreate former village life, among them „Żniwa” (Harvest), „Majówka w Skansenie” and „Niedziela w Skansenie”.
