Kryształowa 73, Szklarska Poręba
Huta Julia in Szklarska Poręba is a working crystal glassworks that can be toured while production is under way. Szklarska Poręba has been linked with glassmaking for centuries, and the plant continues that tradition in the Jelenia Góra Valley at the foot of the Karkonosze Mountains. The tour leads through successive production departments.
Guests watch hot glass being shaped — free forming, pressing and blowing — and then move on to the cutting shop and the decoration of finished pieces. This is not a staged show: the craftsmen at the furnaces are filling current orders, so what you see depends on what is being made that day.
The site has a factory shop with glassware and the Kawiarnia Kryształowa café. Workshops in glass painting and engraving are held here. Dogs are allowed once the entry rules are agreed. Temperatures in the production halls are high, so light clothing and closed shoes are advisable.
