A ceramic manufactory beside the palace in Nieborów

The Majolica Manufactory operates within the palace and park complex in Nieborów, in Łowicz County. It was founded at the end of the 19th century on the initiative of Michał Piotr Radziwiłł as a factory of artistic faience and tiled stoves. To this day it combines the role of a museum with that of a working ceramic workshop.

Majolica and its wares

The works became known for ceramics decorated with coloured glaze in the majolica technique, with plant and animal motifs. Tiles, vessels, figurines and small trinkets were produced here. The tradition continues today, joining historic patterns with contemporary useful forms, and the results are shown in a permanent display.

What you will see

The tour follows the successive stages of making ceramics: shaping the clay body, firing, decoration and the glaze firing. Look out for pieces covered with multicoloured glaze, whose shade depends on the kiln temperature. The manufactory combines easily with a visit to the palace and park in Nieborów and to Arkadia.
