The Glass Museum in Kołobrzeg is a private institution devoted to objects in which craftsmanship, colour and light matter most. The display is arranged by theme and by colour, which makes it easy to compare forms, periods and manufacturing techniques. The visit takes place indoors, at an unhurried pace and regardless of the weather.
The cases hold jugs, vases, bottles, decanters, goblets, bowls, sweet dishes, lamps, candlesticks and glass ornaments. The oldest pieces come from the 19th century and the youngest are around thirty years old, so the collection shows a broad cross-section of everyday and artistic glass. A gallery of still-life paintings, mostly flower bouquets, complements the exhibits.
It is a proposal for anyone curious about the history of everyday objects and about design. A guided tour explains the types of glass and glassmaking techniques and shows how individual pieces differ from one another. Many details only become visible on a longer look, so it is worth setting aside a full hour for the visit.
