ORP Błyskawica is moored at the quay in the very centre of Gdynia and ranks among the city's best-known landmarks. The destroyer served through the whole of the Second World War — from the first days of the campaign until May 1945 — and survives today as a museum ship. Formally it remains part of the Polish Navy and has a permanent crew.
The route runs across the deck and below it. On the outside, attention goes to the gun and torpedo armament, the twin anti-aircraft gun, depth charge throwers and racks, naval mines and the anchor gear on the bow. Below deck the engine room, the aft radio room and the petty officers' cabins have been preserved — the fittings show the conditions in which the sailors worked and lived.
A visit takes about an hour and involves steep ladders and narrow passageways. Children usually enjoy that most, but it makes the tour difficult for people with limited mobility. The ship lies right beside the seaside boulevard and the pier.
