A memorial site in Chełmno nad Nerem

The German Kulmhof extermination camp operated in Chełmno nad Nerem in 1941–1943 and briefly again in 1944. The Germans murdered Jews here, mainly from the Warthegau and the Łódź ghetto. Today the grounds of the former camp form a museum and a place of remembrance.

What remains on site

Visible in Chełmno are the foundations of the manor house, a granary and the remains of the crematorium, complemented by a post-war monument and later commemorations. The display shows victims' personal belongings, vessels, tools and documents recovered during archaeological work.

Visiting

The museum runs permanent and temporary exhibitions, museum lessons, lectures and workshops, including one-day study visits and international youth workcamps. The place calls for quiet and concentration; it is not intended for the youngest children.
