The Beskid Wooden Toy Centre in Stryszawa documents the still living tradition of toy making in the Żywiec region. For generations the village has been known for hand-turned and hand-painted toys — little birds, horses, carriages and rattles. The centre has gathered them in one place and shows them alongside a craftsman's workshop.
The exhibition walks through the history of toy making in the region, setting older pieces against contemporary ones. You can look at the makers' tools and watch a toy maker at work. Outside there is the Park of the Wooden Folk Toy with oversized versions of old games: a rocking horse, a carriage, a carousel and clogs, where children can play without restraint.
This is one of those places where children have more to do than adults. Creative workshops are held on site, from turning to painting toys. Stryszawa lies in the Beskid mountains, on the road from Sucha Beskidzka towards Żywiec.
