Kielecka 20, Wieś Święta Katarzyna
The Museum of Minerals and Fossils works in Święta Katarzyna at the foot of Łysica, in the heart of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains. It grew out of the passion of its private owners and has gathered over a thousand specimens, from gemstones to fossils. The village is at the same time a popular starting point for trails in the Świętokrzyski National Park.
The collection holds minerals from around the world and from Polish sites, as well as fossils documenting ancient life in the area. Its strongest point is the display of objects made of striped flint — a stone quarried only in the Świętokrzyskie region and startling in the wealth of its patterns. Alongside the exhibition there are jeweller's, engraving and stone-cutting workshops.
Visitors can see how stone is worked, from cutting to polishing. School groups are offered a geology lesson with a cutting demonstration. There is a shop on site with jewellery and souvenirs made of striped flint.
