An armoury by the market square

The Armoury of the Sandomierz Knights' Banner operates by the market square in Baranów Sandomierski, close to the Renaissance castle of the Leszczyński family. It is a private collection of arms and props built up by a knightly banner, focused on showing the everyday life of a knight rather than on filling museum cases.

What to see

Several exhibition rooms hold pole and edged weapons — pikes, halberds, swords — as well as firearms and replicas of old cannon. They are complemented by costumes and pieces of armour referring to the warriors of Mieszko I and to late medieval knighthood. A separate section is devoted to the executioner's tools: stocks, shackles and headsman's swords.

Who will enjoy it

Visits are guided, with the guide talking about weaponry, customs and medieval trades — a good formula for families with children. You can try on the costumes of old soldiers and noblewomen; the whole visit takes about an hour and is indoors, so it works in any weather.
