Open-air museum in Szymbark

The Professor Roman Reinfuss Open-Air Museum of the Pogórze Village in Szymbark presents the architecture and culture of the Pogórze foothills. Its grounds hold more than a dozen wooden buildings from the 19th century, moved from nearby villages and arranged to resemble a former rural settlement.

What to see

Among the structures are cottages from Moszczenica, Gródek and Szymbark and a smoke cottage from Siary, barns, a cowshed, a smithy from Turza, an oil mill and two windmills, from Kryg and from Ropa. Small architecture also draws attention: a potter's kiln, a well from Wójtowa and a reconstructed wayside cross.

What you will learn

The interiors are arranged to show how the people of Pogórze worked, what tools they used and what their rooms and workshops looked like. Selected buildings hold exhibitions devoted to costumes, crafts and regional customs. The visit follows paths across open ground.

  • Ticket office at the entrance
  • Parking for visitors
  • Toilets on the museum grounds
  • Walking paths between the buildings
Visit duration: approx. 1 hour Seasonality: Open year-round, the outdoor exhibition best visited from spring to autumn
