Poland's largest cactus nursery

Kaktusiarnia in Rumia, Pomerania, is a private cactus and succulent nursery regarded as the largest in the country. Its three greenhouses hold more than two million plants – cacti, euphorbias, agaves and aloes – representing some six and a half thousand species from the dry regions of the Americas, Africa and Madagascar.

What to see

The eye-catchers are the several-metre columnar cacti from Arizona, huge aloes and the globular specimens known in Poland as “mother-in-law's armchairs”, up to a metre across. The owner or a member of staff guides visitors through the greenhouses, explaining where the plants come from and how they are grown. The collection has won many awards, and plants of every size can be bought on site.

Who it suits

It is a short, unusual stop for travellers along the coast, especially rewarding with children and independent of the weather, since the whole visit takes place under glass. Rumia lies between Gdynia and Wejherowo, on the main road along the Tricity.
