The Zamość Museum stands in the heart of the Old Town, in a row of 17th-century Armenian townhouses in Mannerist and Baroque style, a few steps from the town hall on the Great Market Square. The buildings themselves, with richly decorated façades and arcades, are among the most recognisable features of the UNESCO-listed Renaissance town layout.
The collections are divided into archaeological, historical and ethnographic sections, complemented by a library of early printed books and interwar publications. Exhibits include finds from excavations across the region, folk costumes and craft, portraits of the Zamoyski entail lords, the town's foundation charter and a 1:165 model of Zamość.
It is the natural first stop in the town, giving context for a walk around the Great Market Square, the bastions and the old fortifications. The museum also runs lessons and workshops based on its own collections and multimedia material.
