Rolling stock of a forest narrow-gauge railway

The open-air museum in Janów Lubelski was created next to the Forest District office and gathers relics of the narrow-gauge railway that carried timber out of the surrounding woods. The line ran between Lipa, Bukowa and Biłgoraj; the track was dismantled, so the display is now the only reminder of that transport system.

What to see

Carriages, steam locomotives and bolster wagons used for timber haulage stand on the site. They are complemented by photographs, maps, plans and documentation showing the routes and the organisation of transport. The visit takes place outdoors and does not require much time.

The area and activities

The museum lies among the Janów Forests, attractive for walking and cycling trips, close to the local reservoir. The Forest District runs educational classes for groups, camps and summer colonies here, and the site often serves as the start of forest educational trails.
