Marcinowo 2, Wieś Marcinowo
The Small Folk Museum at the Kowalski family is located in Marcinowo in the Trzebnica district, north of Wrocław. Marian Kowalski has been building the collection for some fifty years; he reconstructed part of the exhibits himself and personally guides visitors, telling the stories behind them.
The displays fill rooms called Izby and hold around three thousand objects in total. Among them are furniture, flat irons, oil lamps, clocks, dolls and prams, as well as firefighting gear, military machinery and a weapons collection. A separate part is „Dom Chleba” (the House of Bread), showing the workshop of a farmer’s wife, while the Kitchen Room holds tableware, pots and a pre-war Belgian stove. The oldest exhibit is a stone mortar some two thousand years old.
The museum is a lively place: it hosts concerts by the „Marciny” folk band, company meetings and private celebrations. It is worth arranging a visit in advance, as one person runs the site.
