A private museum in Sromów

Muzeum Ludowe Rodziny Brzozowskich occupies four cottages in the village of Sromów in the Łowicz region. It grew out of a private passion and presents the folk culture of the area: costumes, interior furnishings and handicraft, gathered and arranged by successive generations of the family.

What to see

Its trademark are moving figures in Łowicz folk costumes, set into scenes of the Corpus Christi procession, a wedding or events from the history of the region. Beside them stand painted dowry chests, paper cut-outs and colourful “spiders”, as well as carriages, gigs, farm tools and the workshops of a cooper and a saddler.

Good to know

One of the buildings holds an exhibition unusual for an open-air museum, “The Four Seasons”, with figures of well-known athletes including Adam Małysz, Kamil Stoch, Justyna Kowalczyk and Zbigniew Bródka. Sromów lies close to Łowicz and Nieborów, so the visit is easy to combine with other sites in the region.
