Park im. ks. Stanisława Staszica, Częstochowa
The Iron Ore Mining Museum operates in Father Stanisław Staszic Park in central Częstochowa as a branch of the Częstochowa Museum. It is the only institution in Poland devoted entirely to the extraction of iron ore — the raw material on which the industry of the Częstochowa region rested for decades. The site belongs to the Industrial Monuments Route of the Silesian Voivodeship.
The displays are arranged in workings dug between 1974 and 1976, so a visit feels like descending into a real mine. Equipment from the closed pits “Szczekaczka”, “Rudniki”, “Wręczyca” and “Barbara” has been gathered here: original mining gear, various types of gallery supports, lamps, signalling boards, hand tools and wagons for hauling ore.
The route shows successive methods of working the deposit and the miner's daily routine, and guides also explain mining culture. The place works well in bad weather and is clear enough for children. Bring a warmer layer — the temperature underground stays low.
