Czerna 79, Wieś Czerna
The Carmelite Museum is set in the village of Czerna in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, not far from Cracow, beside the monastery of the Discalced Carmelites. The display occupies historic interiors and is devoted to the spirituality of the order and the history of the community itself.
The exhibition explains the principles that guide the Carmelites in daily life and the meaning of asceticism and contemplation. Alongside them are everyday objects used by former residents of the monastery and mementoes of its past. Sound, lighting effects and multimedia carry the narrative, making the story of the community clear to visitors from outside religious circles as well.
The museum welcomes school groups, for which museum lessons are prepared. A visit takes about an hour and combines well with a walk through the valley and a tour of nearby Jurassic monuments.
