The Museum of Minerals and Gemstones is located in Kudowa-Zdrój, in the spa park, close to the famous open-air chessboard. Its core is the private collection of Wojciech Sokołowski, gathered over four decades in Poland, Europe, the Americas and Asia.
On display are jaspers, agates and petrified wood from the Kłodzko Valley and the Sudetes, a sizeable meteorite from Africa, a skull carved from rock crystal and dinosaur eggs from the Gobi Desert. Separate cases hold minerals from Dalnegorsk and Kerch, along with native sulphur, calcite, barite and celestine from a disused mine near Tarnobrzeg.
A shop beside the museum sells minerals, fossils and jewellery, and takes orders for custom designs. Mineral fairs are held on the premises. A visit takes about an hour and is a sound idea for rainy weather, children included.
