The Museum of the Wałcz Region occupies a neoclassical manor house on Pocztowa Street in Wałcz, in the Wałcz Lake District. The institution collects and presents the history of the area — from prehistory through the modern era to the twentieth century and the post-war rebuilding of the town.
The most developed part of the exhibition concerns the Second World War. Visitors learn about the construction of the German Pomeranian Wall fortifications, whose line ran through the surroundings of Wałcz, the course of the fighting that broke through them and the scale of the town's destruction. Archive material, documents and accounts of the post-war fate of residents and veterans complete the picture.
The museum runs workshops for children and young people on regional folk culture, old crafts and local legends, and hosts openings, lectures and conferences. A visit combines easily with a walk by Lake Raduń and Lake Zamkowe, which lie right beside the town.
